Bettye LaVette, "Scene of The Crime"
These ten tracks, covers except for one, are gritty,
bold, raw, and steeped in Southern soul, blues, RB
and traces of gospel. LaVette is never afraid to cut
loose, knows when to do it, and when not to do it,
and no amplifier, no matter how loud, could drown
out these pipes. LaVette has been in the business
for a very long time and she is a seasoned and refined
musician, a fact which comes through loud and clear
on every track, which are all winners.
