27 , 2002 Alanis Morissette: "Under Rug Swept"
On
her third album, "Under Rug Swept," Alanis Morisette takes creative
control, assuming the role of producer, and playing most of the instruments. The
music on the album is melodic and compelling, with a balance of electronic and
acoustic sounds, and some unexpected chord progressions. The lyrics are stream-of-consciousness,
with some quirky syntax, and several of the songs are about flawed relationships
and lovers. On the opening "21 Things I Want In A Lover" the old Alanis
belts out a jagged little song, but in general she has mellowed out since her
debut days. Flea plays bass on "Narcissus."
