On their first album recorded for RCA, Howl, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club have totally reworked their sound into something entirely new. Their former sound had a rough, sometimes angry edge, and this time around they have an Americana thing happening - drawing on the traditions of country, gospel, blues, bluegrass. T-Bone Burnett's hand surely played a part in this, but the band didn't exactly do this by accident, as evidenced by the album's gospel opener. Fans of their previous harsh rock sound may be in for a surprise. The band may be due for a name change.
