The
last time Bruce Springsteen collaborated with the E Street Band for a full album
of new material was on 1984's Born in the USA. Their latest release, The Rising,
is forged from images strongly linked to the events of September 11th. Virtually
every song is related to that tragedy either directly or indirectly, and many
of these tracks are soulful anthems, as he attempts to rally the wounded country
with optimism without shrinking from the difficult reality. Both sober and transcendingly
optimistic, The Rising makes a strong and sincere case for the power of music
to uplift the spirit.
