Allman Brothers Band, "The Allman Brothers Band Live"
The Allman Brothers Band have a penchant for airing
it out and our Album of the Week shows that this year's
Newport Folk Festival performance was no exception.
The Brothers were set up outside the walls of Fort
Adams (built in 1824) on the North lawn overlooking
the bay and the bridge into Newport. It was a tight
set with a fantastic old school version of "In
Memory of Elizabeth Reed" as well as a shortened
(no drum solo) rendition of "Mountain Jam"
that sizzled and smoked the fort's walls. "Preachin'
Blues" - a real rarity - was the highlight along
with "The Weight" featuring special guest,
Luther Dickinson, of the North Mississippi All-Stars.
Included on this set are: Trouble No More, Hot Lanta,
Statesboro Blues, Woman Across the River, Come and
Go Blues, Melissa and others.
