You know that scene at the beginning
of the movie, where they show the protagonist, and he’s only a little
kid, and he says something that clues you in to what kind of adult that
kid will grow up to be?
Notice the perplexed look on the faces of PJ’s parents, as the little
boy asks “How many Top 40 Hits did The Beatles have?” See the
perplexed look on PJ’s face, who thinks he’s asked the kind of
question any adult should know, only to realize his folks have no idea.

cover on his English notebook . . . Hitting play-rewind-play-rewind on his
tape recorder to learn every single word to “It’s
The End Of The World As We Know It” (in the days before both CD
Players and Google) . . . Boggle-eyed with bewilderment and excitement at
his first show, The Replacements
at the UMass Student Union Ballroom . . . hearing Smashing Pumpkins on the
radio while living in Virginia, and finding himself on the air on that station
2 days later . . . Worming his way to the front row during The Ramones farewell
tour . . . Standing on the deck of The Governor, in
the fall of 2000, listening to mvyradio and looking at the Island, wondering
what it would be like to call Martha’s Vineyard, Home.
PJ’s been on the air at mvyradio for 7 years. He met and married Tabitha,
the art teacher, a Beatles fanatic. He became the station’s Program
Director
a couple of years ago. He looks forward to getting up each day, knowing
there is more new music to discover and to share. And he still occasionally
says things that perplex his folks. And his friends. And co-workers. And
Tabitha.
But you know from the first frame, that in this movie, everything turns
out alright.
